First of all…you rarely get to sleep through an entire night, you’re up at 4:00 a.m. [because it's not worth it to try to sleep another hour, after feeding and putting the baby back to bed].

You make the coffee, and turn on the news…enjoy the few minutes you have to yourself.

The rest of the day is laundry, cooking, cleaning, running errands–all in between wiping butts and noses, being the peacemaker, storyteller and teacher.

Checking homework, making sure projects and reports are done…need a dozen cookies for tomorrow…

Overnights, parent/teacher conferences, basketball, volleyball, track.

Nurse, shoulder to cry on, listener, instructor…
I didn’t say there wasn’t time to play… I just said that it wasn’t easy.
I eventually went to work outside the home, too.

I benefited from that, because I got to socialize more with adults.
@Lorax… I spent the weekends browning ground beef, frying bacon and making waffles, so that I wouldn’t have to do it in the mornings.

I also prepared meals like lasagna, chili, spaghetti sauce…things that you just had to heat up after work.

Ok, I’m feeling a little feisty today….so I just wanted to check to see if anybody honestly felt that way.
I’m a working mom and love my son very much. This is what works for our family. To each their own but this question annoyed me

“spoils” You are absolutely correct. The US needs better maternity leave so that more women have the choice to stay home if they want to. The key word would be “choice.”

My husband came home from Iraq and between his deployments accrued 66 days of leave (paid vacation)
We’ve done the reuniting and bonding and getting used to each other. Now I’m starting to go crazy! lol I love him being home but dang 66 days go slow
Would that drive you crazy or would you like it?
It is great having him home to help with out son, they are getting used to eachother, but doing the same thing over and over and over and over……..
Thats what we need is a vacation, but we are moving in a few weeks so we can’t really.
I know it will be over soon and he’ll be in the field for weeks at a time, we just need a hobby right now!

be on and off the Y! Answers message board all day? Now granted I don’t sit here and neglect to play with or taking care of my 2 year old son, but I am also 26 weeks pregnant with my second baby (with one previous miscarriage) and have had exceptionally horrible pelvic/groin pressure and siacitc nerve pain pretty much ever since I started showing at 10 weeks. Being really active and on the floor is pretty much excruciating. Even my midwife has told me to take it easier than normal, though I need not worry about there being something wrong. But I don’t ignore my 2 year old son if he needs something or wants to play with mommy, I just cannot DO much. Do you think it’s bad or stupid for me to be on and off here most days? Any other SAHMs in my same position?

I know it sounds simple but I am drained. I am a stay at home mom who’s husband works on a ship so I am so tired. How to a play and conversate all day? How do other moms get household chores done and time with their babies all day?

Evan is 6 months and 3 weeks old. He rarely naps longer than 15 minutes if ever at all. And I just moved into a new home so I have 20x the chores (unpacking)

At my daughters one year appointment a week ago the Dr. was surprised at how advanced her speech and overall development was. She suggested we get her to play with some older children like two to three so that she won’t be stunted or regress. My wife is a SAHM but does not drive and public trans is hard. I work all week and most Saturdays. We just have Sundays where we go to church then do things as a family a musume, etc. So where can we go after work or whenever so that she can interact with kids

I dont know what career i want at all- i hope to have finished my bachelor degree come winter and it is an accelerated course but with my time off with having children and being a stay at home mom come 2.5 yrs i now have doubts on what i should do.

My hubby makes like 60,000 a year but that is us traveling on the road, we have had plans to stop traveling after 5 yrs and then I am to get a good paying job and he wants to open a pet shop, but i dont know what i should do or how to get back into the workforce. I have always seen myself as a person in a office and people environment.

usually it’s the OPPOSITE — that i SHOULDNT feel guilty feeling that way. my husband i work opposite schedules so we dont need a sitter but we both hardly get any sleep and i am hating my job and when i come home, i feel like i dont have any control over my 6 month’s day and i have no idea what he has been doing all day or when he ate or napped…. i would love to just stay home but i feel guilty like i am making my husband miss out on his son’s life if he got a 2nd job to make up for my lost income… and i dont have the balls to just go in and say “sorry, i quit” i feel so guilty and i told myself i would put my son first when i was pregnant with him, and now i feel like work comes first.
“…. 6 month’s day…” = referring to my 6 month old.

And what wouldn’t you sacrifice?

My husband and I have recently had to make some hard choices in order for me to continue to stay home with our daughter.

Looking for affordable housing was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Mostly things in our price range were in very poor condition or in a bad neighborhood. Those were things we didn’t feel we could sacrifice.

On the other hand, we let go of things we were accustomed to – a spacious house/garage/washer&dryer/internet etc. And we are going to be on a tight budget – and we already thought we were tight!

What have you given up, and what are the ways you scrimp to make it?

how do you balance work and family?

I’m a college teacher, work from 7am to 5pm. And no, I won’t leave my job because I need to give my daughter food to eat and clothes to wear.

I know what it’s like to be a SAHM, up until my daughter was four I did not work as her father was very well off financially. Things happened and we split so I no longer had that full income. Anyways, I do love working and being able to teach my daughter anything she wants to know about biology!

I am home when she gets home from school and ballet (luckily) so I do not miss too much of her being around.

Whether you’re a SAHM or a working mother I’m sure we’re all amazing mothers anyway! We just do what suits us and our family best.

I’m hurt though, when people say I should put my family first. Believe me, if my 9 year old asked me to stop working I’d drop everything for her in a second flat. She is by whole life.
