Fiji is an island paradise that stuns the senses with its beauty and calms the troubled spirit with its serenity. Located south of the equator it enjoys a fantastic climate but like all islands is prone to Mother Nature’s wrath. There are some 300 plus islands that form the archipelago, of which approximately a little over a 100 are inhabited by the Fijian people who comprise the Chinese, Indians, Polynesians, Europeans and other Pacific Islanders.

If you want to learn to paint while taking a holiday in Fiji, you could not have chosen a more picturesque place. The sheer beauty of the place with its splendid beaches, coral islands and tropical rain forests are an inspiration to artists from greenhorn to the skilled alike. Blue seas and sky, tranquil beaches and greenery as far as the eye can see will provide you ample painting material. When you want to take a break from your painting you can always indulge in one of the many activities that are available in Fiji including out of this world diving opportunities.

Some of the resorts in Fiji offer various painting workshops, so you can sign up for one or as many as you like and learn to paint while on holiday. One of the workshops available caters to a wide range of students and allows you to use watercolors, chalk, pastels, pencils, pastel pencils, ink, graphite and other types of drawing and painting materials – sky’s the limit really for what you can make use of. All drawings will be done on paper and the use of colors will be the most dominant theme of the workshop, blending a deviation from naturalistic color and realist imagery. You can learn all there is to learn about: nature as an inspirational teacher, understanding the elements of design, adventures with color, understanding complementary colors and color systems, painting with neutral, balance of color, textures and stamping, tricky greens, salt wash, scribbling right, sponges and dusting, edges and negative shapes and exploring mixed media.

You get to choose the medium you want to work with, whether a single medium or more than one, from watercolors, gouache, chalk pastels, colored or pastel pencils, inks and graphite. It is recommended that beginners equip themselves with a cheap set of pastels or watercolors rather than buying the more expensive artist materials to start with. You can use watercolor paper that is smooth, medium or rough and choose any brand you want. You may want to buy a drawing board, Perspex is best for weight reasons, masking tape, plastic palette with lid, plastic mixing palette for wet colors, fixative for pastels, plastic tubs for water, paint brushes in various sizes of either squirrel or sable hair, synthetic brushes, erasers and a ruler. Supply yourself with old towels and wet wipes or old cloths for cleaning your hands and face should you apply some paint on it in your enthusiasm!

Now that you have detailed information about a sample workshop that you can find while holidaying in Fiji, go online to find out how you can learn to paint while on holiday.
About the Author:
