Mornings with Mom

have you had your coffee break?

how well do 2 yr olds deal with changes, and with being apart from their previously sahm’s?

i’m considering going back to school in a city over 100 miles away from where i am now (it’s a great school, and the closest one that offers the degree i want). now (and for the past 4 months) i live with my mom, and if i’m not home with my daughter then my mom is. i’m worried that she won’t adjust well if i move with her, and am away from her to go to classes & work (since i’ll have to get a job to afford a place to live)… it should only take me about 9 months to get the degree i want, and i’ll be starting at the beginning of 2010 (i’ll be doing online classes here at my mom’s until then) so she’ll be 2 months shy of 2 yrs old when we move…

i’ll have to put her in day care, probably, but her father & her aunt live up there & they may be able to watch her sometimes as well (it would make it easier for her relationship with her father)

how resilient are 2 yr olds? right now she’s pretty attached to me & to my mom & i’m worred about it being too much stress on her, but it’s something that i think would be really good for our future…

any thoughts?

How is the BEST way to handle stress when you’re a SAHM?

I am now a stay-at-home mom, but I used to work. I’ve been home for a cpl months now. My kids used to be SOO well-behaved, but now they are IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with. Bottom line, I feel like I am failing as a mother. I can’t control them at all, my 3 yr old doesn’t listen at ALL, and he always used to very well. My 18 mo old is going thru a stage where he’s just basically distructive, whenever I’m in one room cleaning up a mess he made, he’s in the other room making another one. I mean, syrup all over the carpet, couches, etc… green marker all over the walls, bed, door, himSELF… I put up a baby gate, he tears it down. I drill holes in the doorway to ensure the baby gate can’t go down, he still finds a way… I lock doors, he figures out how to open them! And worst of all, they are CONSTANTLY FIGHTING! All I hear all day is crying and screaming! I LOVE staying home with my boys, more than anything in the world. Everything was GREAT forever, but now, Idk, if they’re going thru a phase, or if I’m doing something wrong? What can I do to alleviate stress in the middle of a VERY STRESSFUL day, to recoup and handle my children with sanity?
Their only other caretaker is their dad, my husband. He started a new job and went back to college, so we basically swapped.
I feel like I DO all these things. They get time outs for the min/yr ratio. They know what to do in time out. I ask THEM what they (well the 3 yr old) did, and he tells me. I play with my kids every day. They have a regular schedule. I thought to myself, they need mental stimulation, so I read to them, I teach them about colors and shapes. They do arts/crafts every day. We play games like hide and seek. I take them outside when it’s warm enough, bc I thought, they’re not getting enough exercise….. this is the norm for me, for us. They just started acting out, and I can’t figure out what’s different. Maybe I do MORE with my kids than my husband did when he was home with them? You’d think they’d respond more positively.

Moms do you have your toddlers in any extra activities?

My daughter is 14 months and I am a SAHM mom and she is an only child. I was starting to think about activities for her like once a week or so. to get her out of the house learning experiences. I was thinking something along the lines of
Karate
Sports
Ballet/dance
In my area they start classes for toddlers 2-3 I was wondering if you have any of your kids in it and if they liked it or not?
o I forgot about gymnastics! That was always fun as a kid!

How can I help my 18 month old transition from me being a SAHM, to me going to work full time?

I actually have to young kids that will be affected by this, but it will be most devestating to my still breastfed 18 month old daughter, I am not in a position where I can gradually get them use to being in a daycare full of strangers, that is just not possible, I actually have to send them there without them having much knowledge of the fact that they are going to stay there all day, without mommy around, I am scared for them, I know how tempermental she can get when she cant be with mommy, this will be the first time she is with complete strangers, what can I do to help her and what can I do to ease my own feelings of distress? thank you

What time do you get up with your toddlers? “SAHM’s”?

Wondering what time you Stay at home moms get up with your toddlers?
My son is 2 and Since my husband works LATE we stay up late and wait on him so my son can get some time with him before bed, so Sometimes were not in bed til 3-4am – Which means not even getting up til around Noon & the other day we got up at 2pm!!!! This is absolutely Ridiculous for us both and I feel I’m wasting our day away, I talked with my husband about it and said he understood if we had to start going to bed earlier and we do get time with him before he leaves for work but usually not much.
So What time do you go to bed & Get up with your toddlers?
This is geared more towards Stay at home moms since those who work HAVE to be up.

Thanks. 🙂
