Ima i completly agree with you. it really irks me how schools do this and theyre allowed to do it. they cut the funding to co-ed activites and then they still over charge things like a stupid weekly dance. i can understand prom but charge 15 dollars per person to get into a dance. and yes 10 dollars for A raffle ticket is a bit much. im glad someone else sees what i see. its even more messed up where i live. if youre playing on a sports team and you or your family dont join their little clubs you as the athelete dont get to play. its messed up many families like mine for example dosent have the money to put forth to all their booster clubs so i barley got to play and after 2 yrs on the high school team quit. i quit right in the middle of a game. my parents were there waiting with extra clothes i ripped all the pads off and all of that got changed and went home. ill never play sports for people being greedy i only play for fun

you could try to sell them but good luck in finding someone willing to pay $10 a ticket.

Schools are in just as bad a financial position as everyone else. They need to raise funds.

I wouldn’t write the letter – I wouldn’t sell the tickets either.

All the best.

Yes, I think you should write your letter…I’m sure most parents would agree with what you say!
It really annoys me that schools are forever wanting money for this, that and the next thing! Of course, parents don’t want their children to feel left out and so generally comply with the money-grabbing demands! It’s really a form of blackmail – and it should be stopped!
My son’s primary school was really bad for this…every week or so, there would be another thinly disguised demand for money. I never did have the guts to stand up and question it..like most parents, I just kept sending in the money! But I do admire you for being willing to actually complain – that is just what they need! Well done :)

I’d be a bit ticked off. Even a $5 ticket is a hard sell, if you want $10 sell them 1 for 5 or 4 for 10 or something along those lines as it’s just tickets not costly things to make. I really like nickle raffles, the prizes are usually home made yet really nice, something like that works for me:)

Instead of writing a letter, attend a meeting. Participate. Be active. If you want a say in what fundraisers are held or how they are run, be there in the planning stages. Everyone likes the new computers, smart boards, current books in the library, assistance paying for field trips, new musical instruments, equipment for the arts program, but very few want to help the PTA/PTO reach the goals to pay for those things.

our school chorus holds a $10 raffle but the ticket is good for one month. every day there is a new prize winner drawn for a different prize. the prizes are donated by local businesses.I can see maybe buying 1 ticket but not 10 at a time.personally I’m with you. with the way things are I think that maybe a $5 ticket would be better and lets face it from the time the poor kids get into school it seems to me that they are peddling something. makes you wonder where your school taxes are going doesn’t it?I agree fewer fundraisers but with the way things are they need to reduce the price of the ticket and make it like our school’s with the ticket being good for a month. I think they would sell more tickets then as apposed to charging $10 per ticket.I think you should write your letter I’m sure many people are thinking the same thing and it needs to be questioned just how this raffle will work.
