I would go for the PTO/PTA. This would at least help you to get to know other parents which will also help your son. Also, I would look into the local YMCA and Boy Scouts. If your son has any theatrical talent, look into any kids theater groups. Doing a play gets you to know a lot of different kids. Also, sports teams are good. I really think that he will be okay. He is still young enough that making friends shouldn't be a problem.

when you get there and settled in or after dinner go for walks and bike rides and anyone you walk bye say hi even kids. when I was little my family moved states and its rough for a kid to move but they always make friends usally on the frist day of school also let your son ride the bus home so he can see the kids that are in the neighborhood and where they live its also 30 min. that he can talk to kids. So don't worry to much. the PTA does fund raisers and decides how to spend the money and they hold meetings that you can take your son to and he can play with the other kids somthing that you should look into and do if it fits your life style! best wishes

definently join the PTA. that way he will still feel close to you and not all that afraid. just get really active in school activities, and introduce him to the kids that are going to that school (neighborhood kids) that way he will at least feel like he has people that he knows there. plan playdates with the other kids so that they can bond and stuff

the PTA helps plan school events, such as talent shows, bake sales, etc...nothing too hard..if your son is only going into the 2nd grade then you have nothing to worry about..it doesn't get hard until middle or high school..lol.
